Pet Sitting FAQ

How do I book Pet Sitting?

Simply get in touch with the dates that you need pet care and if I have availability I’ll provisionally reserve your booking. I will then arrange to visit you so you can meet me and I can meet your pets. If you’re happy to go ahead and book I’ll confirm the booking, give you the registration forms and send you the invoice.

Is there a minimum booking requirement?

No. I’m happy for you to book a single visit upwards, whatever you need.

What animals do you pet sit for?

I can offer holiday care for any domestic pet that is happy to be home alone between visits, such as most cats, rabbits, fish, small caged animals etc. I also offer day-care visits to dogs but can’t offer routine overnight care.

How do I pay?

I prefer payment by bank transfer (details are on the invoice) but will also accept cash or you can pay securely online with a card directly from your invoice.

When do I need to pay?

All bookings need to be paid for at least 48 hours before the first scheduled visit, or at the time of booking if it is less than 48 hours between the booking and the first visit. Any bookings not paid for 48 hours before they are due to take place may be cancelled.

How regularly will you visit?

I am happy to visit as often as you would like, as different animals have different requirements. You can view the pricing information here.

How long will each visit last?

It depends on the individual circumstances of the booking. As a general rule, a single visit for up to 3 pets will last 20-30 minutes and for over 3 pets will last 30-40 minutes, but it really does depend on the type of pet and the duties required. I always take time to stroke and interact with pets so that they don’t feel lonely or abandoned, a visit is never purely about feeding and cleaning.

Are there any species that you won’t look after?

I will pet sit for any domestic pet that is happy to be home alone between visits. I have wide experience with cats, small caged animals and garden pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs. If I do not have experience with your specific type of pet and it needs specialist care I will tell you before accepting the booking so that you can make alternative arrangements if you would prefer to.

What will you do during a visit?

See here for the core tasks I expect to perform during a pet sitting visit though I am happy to carry out any reasonable task. If you require a lot more than the core pet and/or basic household tasks to be carried out during a visit you may need to book a double visit but we can discuss this at the time of booking.

Will you come at a specific time?

When you book a visit you can specify morning, lunchtime or evening. Morning visits are generally between 8 and 10 am. Lunch time visits are generally between 12 and 2 pm. Evening visits are generally between 5 and 7pm. I don’t give exact time slots as I will plan my route according to the addresses that I am visiting however If you have a specific timing requirement I will do my best to accommodate it.

Do you accept same day bookings?

I understand that last minute things crop up and do try and accommodate same day bookings where possible for registered clients.

How will you access my property?

I will need a key to the property and any security information relating to alarms etc. You can choose to leave a key in my care so it is always available if you ever need to request short notice care, or it can be returned at the end of each booking.

How will you keep my key and my property safe?

All client keys in my care are stored in a safe when not in use and are never stored or carried with any identifiable information linking them to your address. I am the only person with access to the safe and to client keys. I will only ever enter your property to carry out scheduled activities with your express permission, and will return your key at any point immediately upon request.

I always double check that all doors are locked while I’m in the property and when leaving the property after the visit. I will never put your keys through the letterbox, I will always return the keys to you in person, and will not give them to any other person for any reason.

What if my plans change and I need to cancel?

If you cancel a scheduled visit and give at least 48 hours notice you will receive a full refund. If you cancel with up to 24 hours notice, no refund can be given but you can reschedule the visit to a mutually convenient day (within 6 months of the cancelled visit) at no additional cost. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, no refund or rescheduling is possible.

What if one of my pets is ill or injured while I’m away?

If one of your pets is ill or injured I will make every effort to contact you directly and if I can’t contact you to contact your ‘pet guardian’. If I can not contact you and feel that your pet needs urgent care I will take the animal to your preferred vet and authorise the vet on your behalf to carry out any necessary emergency treatment. Such instances are very rare but I will always make your pet’s welfare my top priority.

How will I know that you’ve visited?

After each visit I will send you a brief message to let you know all is well or to alert you if I have any concerns about any pet for any reason whatsoever.

What supplies do I need to provide?

You will need to provide enough food for each pet for the duration of the booking, and also any cat litter or similar supplies (depending on the pet). If anything runs out I will let you know and purchase it on your behalf but do charge £4 per shopping trip plus the receipted cost of the items.

Will you administer medication?

Yes, I am happy to administer medications as required.

Any other questions? Just get in touch and I’ll do my best to help 🙂
